Color Season:

True Summer

True Summer is the coolest of the Summer palettes. The colors are consistently cool and carry a certain intensity, but not Winter’s high contrast and clarity. It is tempting to warm this season up, but overly warm or clear colors break its natural elegance — True Summer thrives in silky, cool tones like cool mid-blue, grays, and muted emerald. It is easily confused with True Winter, which shares the coolness but demands far more contrast and clarity.

Key traits

  • The coolness is obvious and consistent — nothing in the coloring leans gold
  • More color depth than Light Summer, but softer than Winter’s clarity
  • Ashy hair and cool skin with a pink or bluish undertone are common
  • Muted, cool colors bring harmony; warm or saturated ones take over

Best neutrals & metals

Neutrals

Light gray, mid-gray, cool taupe, graphite, deep gray-blue, navy — oyster white rather than crisp white

Metals

Silver — matte, brushed, or hammered; avoid yellow gold, bronze, and brass

Colors to avoid

Warm, strong, or heavily saturated colors easily drown you out. Mustard, rust orange, and camel clash with the cool undertone and can create sallowness. Many True Summers try to add artificial warmth with bronzer and highlights — but come into their own when the coolness is embraced.

True Summer vs
True Winter

It's easy to confuse True Winter and True Summer because of their cool tones. But while both have a cool undertone, the biggest difference is that True Winter carries much more contrast and clarity, while True Summer is somewhat lighter and softer.
